Hu Li

They’re the coalminers of small private coalmine, they continuously work 8 to 9hours per shift, without drinking and eating.

They keep on digging hundreds of meters under the ground, accompanied with the danger of poisonous gas and dusts.

When they come out of the coalmine, they are like the “lead sculptures” with eyes glittering in the darkness.

They’re the ones closest to the earth, digging in the darkness, bringing warmth and light to us.

Their perseverance comes from the hard living condition; their helplessness comes from the heavy burdens of life. That’s what I saw through my lens, that’s what I want to say through my photographs.

May them live a happy and content life.
